2024 Reading Challenges
Nine 2024 Reading Challenges have been created to encourage reading a variety of books, to support causes, and diversity, and to support authors from all over the US and the world.
Readers have power and books can inspire change. By reading books by diverse authors, with diverse characters, books about topics such as equal rights, civil rights, and women's rights, books about the environment, and books from cultures and countries other than our own, we educate ourselves, we expose ourselves to truths and cultures different from our own, we adapt an accepting mindset, and we become a part of the change.
It is so easy to get stuck on reading the books everyone else reads, the books with the biggest marketing budgets, the books backed by publicists, the books in the big box stores, the books that are visible, and the books on the bestseller lists.
Read indie and traditionally published books, fiction and non-fiction, US and international books, recently published books, and books that have been around for a while.
Let's support authors and causes through our reading lists, let's read outside the "box" once in a while. We can still read the books with the big budgets, the romances, and the New York Times bestsellers, but on occasion we can pick up a book by an author who does all of the book marketing, or one who was published years ago, or one who was published by a small publisher with a limited marketing and publicity budget.
If you enjoyed the book, tag the author's social media accounts and make their day. The author might even like your post, leave a comment, and/or share it on his or her social media.
Then support the author by leaving reviews on Amazon, Apple, Goodreads, and other places where you can buy their books.
Which reading challenge will you choose?
The 2024 Reading Challenges
- 📗 The Women's Reading Challenge
- 📗 The BIPOC Reading Challenge
- 📗 The 50 States Reading Challenge
- 📗 The Indie Reading Challenge
- 📗 The World Reading Challenge
- 📗 The Environment Reading Challenge
- 📗 The LGBTQIA+ Reading Challenge.
- 📗 The Florida Reading Challenge
- 📗 The Southern Reading Challenge
The goal for all of these reading challenges is to diversify our TBRs. There should be a 2024 reading challenge for almost anyone.
Some of the reading challenges have levels you can choose to fit your own reading goals such as choose 5, 10, or 20 books in a challenge, while others such as the 50 States Challenge clearly has 50 books. This was done because not everyone read 100 books in a year.
Many of the reading challenges overlap, so you can read a book from an indie author with BIPOC characters from Florida about women's rights and all of a sudden, you'll have checked 4 boxes by reading 1 book.
Throughout the year update your readers on your reading challenge progress. When you have completed a challenge, share it with your readers and with the Authors and Book Lovers United page on Instagram or the group on Facebook. If you forward or tag Authors and Book Lovers United on Instagram, I will make sure to share it as well.

So, if you enjoyed a book, review the on your own social media channels and post reviews to Goodreads, Amazon, and wherever, the books are sold.
